Lost the plot? And so it starts again for the final time…

18 Feb

I had lots of questions after the Season Five’s Finale of Lost and still no answers – yet.

But, here we go, Lost Season 6 – My Ratings as I consume each episode:

EP01 – I’ve already seen this?
EP02 – Surely this should have been the opener?
EP03 – Claire is ‘dark’ huh? But yay she saved Jin!
EP04 – You are kidding me? Chalked names in a cave? FFS.
EP05 – Jack has a son? Um, OK and a lighthouse with magic mirrors? Are you serious?
EP06 – Oh and so the temple narrative was pointless after all? Losing. Will. To. Watch. Next. Episode.
EP07 – Richard – he be a kind of pirate then? Jack is invincible and the Ben and Illana moment was nice. Hoping things are looking up?
EP08 – “We ain’t taking the plane, Freckles. We’re taking the sub.” Gung Ho. Gung Shhmo.
EP09 – He is from Tenerife? Bahahaha!
EP10 – I *love* Desmond – please save this series. We need you!
EP11 – Yeah! Daniel is back – as an emo musician. Hmm. Mrs Widmore looks like Charles’s granny, not his missus.
EP12 – So that solves the jungle whispers (in a weak way IMHO). Is this narrative all about love unlocking the truth? Please god no. (Desmond + Penny, Charlie + Claire, Daniel + Charlotte, and now Hurley and Libby?)
EP13 – Yay for Sun and Jin reunion! But ‘meh’ to the rest of the episode
EP14 – Character cull. Best of a bad bunch so far IMO. Will Frank make it? who else can fly a plane? Please get better, there is still time. Pinning my hopes on Desmond.

My Lost SE05 enjoyment levels

18 Feb

Completely inspired by Den Meth’s Trilogy Ratings blog post, I have been tracking my enjoyment levels of Lost SEO5 per episode – and now it’s all over:

My views on Lost Season 5

My views on Lost Season 5

I even applied some truely informative reviews per ep below (ahem):

Episode 01 – Yaay it’s back.

Episode 02 – hmmm, ok… still good though.

Episode 03 – hmm.

Episode 04 – hm.

Episode 05 – Brillant. Best episode yet.

Episode 06 – Pah – was just bad, like watching a re-run of Sunset Beach.

Episode 07 – Pah – am really finding the scripting quite cliched.

Episode 08 – Really liked Juliette and Sawyer, aww.

Episode 09 – Brillo (to quote a friend’s dad)

Episode 10 – Meh – but then omg you shot little Ben!

Epsiode 11 – Oooooo for Alpert moment but still not as strong as Ep 05, my current highest rated ep so far.

Episode 12 – Smoke Monster and swirly imagery = rubbish. Wigs = what were they thinking? Illana and ‘shadow of the staue moment’ at the end = Intriguing.

Episode 13 – I was right about Miles’s being the baby. Who is Bram and who is he batting for? He is on the island ‘now’ with Illana too. Weird.

Episode 14 – Meh.

Episode 15 – Likey muchos. (Kate/Juliette/Sawyer moment on the submarine – classic.  Juliette HATES her!)

Episode 16 -Awesome

Episode 17 – WOW – feels like these two eps had a totally different script team.

So, in conclusion then…

The double-bill season finale really blew my mind.

Totally back on form; great script, great pace, bloody (Jack and Sawyer’s fight plus Jacob’s stabbing and burning), information overload, Jacob retro-fitted into history and oh what a cliff hanger – go blondie!

Biggest questions for me are as follows – and be warned, they are in no particular order:

-         Is it safe to say that Jacob (hinted at by his nemesis) draws people to the island?

-         Is Lost one big course of empire narrative, with changeable protagonists?

-         Why was Illana in bandages when Jacob visited her? Facial burns?

-         Jacob spoke Korean and Russian – how come?

-         Did Jacob bring John back to life and that is how the loophole occurred? Did Jacob cross the line, enabling his nemesis to capitalise in his ‘mistake’?

-         Why did Jacob chose Kate, Sawyer, John, Jack, Said, Jin and Sun to visit? Why Saywer and Kate as kids? To show their lack of sticking to promises?

-         His encounter with Said seemed malicious; did Jacob need Nadia to die in order to motivate Said?

-         Like Richard, why doesn’t Jacob aged? Can Jacob be killed? He didn’t stop Ben in any way?

-         Jacob infers that Hurley has a gift rather than being cursed; Walt too seemed to be gifted and yet hasn’t been pivotal in SE05 apart from telling John that he dreamt of him on the island, in a suit with people trying to kill him…

-         How can John Locke’s impersonator take on his form AND seemingly his memories (John reminds Ben how they first met)?

-         Is it possible that Jack’s dad is therefore embodied by someone else as seemingly, coming back to life isn’t something that is the norm – even to Richard, who is shocked that John has (well, he hasn’t as we now know!)

-         Just who is Jacob’s nemesis then? Why does he want to kill Jacob so badly?

-         The statue is a godess of fertility according to Lostpedia… what is the relevance of this?

-         The fact that Jacob has touched Kate, Sawyer, John, Jin and Sun – is this to ensure he know who they are when they come to the island (and therefore how he knew that John wasn’t John?)

-         Why does Jacob choose such flawed characters to interact with off the island?

-         The fact that Hurley chats to dead people – are they dead or are they too other forces embodying his old pals?

-         Is this definitely the end for the real John Locke? (hope not)

-         Why hasn’t Jacob met Ben in the 35 years Ben has been on the island? Why was he so dismissive of Ben? Did he in fact need Ben to kill him?

-         Did Jacob wreck his own cabin? Was it even Jacob’s cabin, we haven’t actually ever seen him in it?

-         Why did Jacob ask John Lock to “help me” and how come he didn’t reveal himself? Was it even Jacob?

-         Prior to The Incident: Part 1, we have only seen Jacob’s eye – at the risk of stretching what we saw, I would hazard a guess that Jacob was older than the actor now portraying him and possibly a bit pink (burnt perhaps? Given what we now know) Maybe this wasn’t Jacob at all, perhaps it was his nemesis?

-         Juliette’s demise – she wasn’t visited by Jacob and was the only one who came a cropper at the Swan (what a great, heroic end for her character, if that is the end of ‘blondie’?)

-         Just who are Illana and Bram? Are they the good guys?

-         Is Frank significant? Interesting to bring back a seemingly minor character at this stage as a ‘candidate’ – for what though? Did they think he was the nemesis perhaps?

-          “They are coming” As Jacob whispered before being pushed into the fire –Who Jacob, Who FFS! Jack and the O6 from the 70s?

-         Why couldn’t Jacob’s nemesis kill him? Why haven’t Widmore and Ben tried to kill each other? Gentleman’s game?

-         Season 6 then – all about the Black Rock? I have a feeling there may be some familiar faces on that ship or interesting connections still to reveal themselves…

What on earth will Season 6 bring eh?

Is it to far fetched to suggest that the O6 may actually be the crew of the Black Rock ship? ;)

Whatever it brings, there is a lot of ground to cover and blanks to fill in – perhaps too many for one last 16/17 ep season?

See my reviews of Season 6, as I watch the episodes.
