Thank goodness he’s gone!

17 Jan

So, here’s the thing…

I’m a 34 year old media professional, long time VF fan and loyal hoarder of the magazines, I am naturally inquisitive and open minded about a plethora of media and all the grizzly bits which hang from it.

I do however take offence to Justin Bieber being allowed to stay up past his bedtime and run the VF Facebook channel under the guise of ‘guest editor’.

Without question, the boy is an enigma to many and clearly knows how to work a social media channel such as Facebook but unfortunately I am not interested in JB pushing people to his own Facebook page [whilst acting as the VF guest editor] to check out photos of his CHILD fans holding a copy of VF with him on the cover.

Whether this JB fan activity has been fully approved by VF or not is irrelevant, by association it looks cheap.

Looking through JB’s Facebook gallery is a frightening; the VF brand is everywhere with children coveting the February cover (featuring JB) – I only hope that the majority of them are using their parents’ Facebook account to do so – encouraging children to self promote via Facebook is such dangerous behaviour to advocate:

There are better ways to introduce and lead a younger audience to one of my favourite brands, this is just all so ill conceived, crass and alienates existing fans.

My own opinion aside, I hope VF were monitoring what their Facebook fans were saying about this curious choice of Guest Editor and they take note – it was however pretty funny seeing the ‘kids’ calling non JB fans ‘HATERZ’!

It’s been a frightful time on Facebook, especially as VF is a brand which I hold in such high regard, so when it makes a social faux pas like this, it ruptures something in my open mind.

No more teeny guest editors on Facebook, please?

I’ll be rejoining the VF Facebook page now that JB has left the building…
